CLEARWATER, FL – A multi-vehicle crash on Countryside Boulevard under the U.S. 19 overpass Wednesday afternoon resulted in the death of a 77-year-old Oldsmar woman and the closure of all lanes.
Clearwater Police officers and Clearwater Fire & Rescue personnel responded to the scene shortly after noon following reports of a crash with serious injuries.
The driver of one of the vehicles, a 77-year-old woman from Oldsmar, died from her injuries after being transported to Mease Countryside Hospital. Her 79-year-old husband, who was a passenger in their Lincoln Town Car, is currently in stable condition at Orlando Health Bayfront Hospital in St. Petersburg.
The preliminary investigation revealed that the Lincoln Town Car was traveling northbound on the U.S. 19 access road at Countryside Boulevard when it collided with a Jeep Wrangler. The Jeep, traveling southbound on the access road, was attempting to make a left turn onto Countryside Boulevard at the time of the collision.
The impact of the initial crash caused one of the vehicles to then strike a third vehicle. No other injuries were reported.
As a result of the accident, all lanes of Countryside Boulevard were shut down, causing significant traffic disruptions in the area. Authorities urged drivers to seek alternate routes while the scene was being investigated and cleared.
The cause of the crash remains under active investigation by the Clearwater Police Department.
