PASCO COUNTY, Fla. – A 60-year-old New Port Richey woman died early Sunday morning after being struck by a Mercedes sedan while attempting to cross US-19 in her wheelchair. The fatal incident occurred at approximately 12:57 AM at the intersection of Trouble Creek Road.
According to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), a Mercedes sedan, driven by a 46-year-old Tampa man, was traveling northbound on US-19 and entered the intersection under a green traffic signal.
At the same time, the New Port Richey woman, who has not yet been identified pending notification of next of kin, attempted to cross the highway in her wheelchair despite a red pedestrian traffic signal.
She entered the path of the northbound vehicle and was struck.
The woman was transported to an area hospital with critical injuries but later succumbed to those injuries.
